Steyning in Bloom: Bulbs In, Tulips on the Way

The team behind the summer displays has chosen a mix of foliage, colour and texture for autumn, along with plenty of tulips to welcome the spring. The summer planting was magnificent. While everything around was crisp and brown, the watering bowser that pottered along the High Street at dawn kept the tubs thriving, and they gave everyone’s spirits a lift. Steyning in Bloom relies on the skill and hard work of Ferring Nurseries, who handle the watering and upkeep. It also relies on the support of local residents. That support comes as words of encouragement for the volunteers on their knees emptying tubs, and as the hundreds of visitors who came to the Open Gardens day at the end of June. It was a memorable day. The High Street buzzed with well over 500 visitors, who chose their own route around some or all of the 18 gardens, and a few energetic enthusiasts managed the whole circuit. The garden owners loved meeting their guests and sharing what they know. Open Gardens is now an established community event. Save the date: next year’s Open Gardens is on Sunday 27th June 2027, which will be the seventh year. Each year raises more money than the last. That matters as costs rise, and the committee is already planning more planting. Thank you Steyning in Bloom would like to thank everyone involved. That includes the Parish Council and the Business Chamber for their support, and local businesses, some of which have put on their own displays. Most of all, thank you to friends and supporters across the Steyning community, especially the band of behind-the-scenes volunteers. Could you help? Steyning in Bloom would love to grow its volunteer team. Help is needed with planting, staffing Open Gardens and other tasks that come up.
