The Arts Society Steyning - The Roots of Jazz
Tuesday 23rd June19:00 - 21:00
Every year we organise an evening lecture in memory of Millicent Honeywood who founded TASS. Our lecturer is the acclaimed clarinettist Emma Johnson who'll explain the part African Blues and Cakewalk, American Classical and Vaudeville, Latin American Dance, and Middle Eastern Klezmer all played in the story of jazz. We’ll also listen to, along the way, some of the greatest musical artists of the twentieth century: Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington to name but a few. Tickets cost £12.50, for members and non members alike, and include a glass of wine or a soft drink. Tickets from The Steyning Bookshop (cash) or at the TASS lecture on 8 June at the Steyning Centre (card only).
